But honestly, I love the Olympics. I really don't have the words to put it.
(While watching the Olympic Ceremony on a huge projector here on campus, this happened...)
It's absolutely awe-inspiring to watch lugers throw themselves down steep, winding slopes; figure skaters launch themselves high up into the air only to twist not once, not twice, not even thrice but FOUR times (I see you, Yevgeny); and ski jumpers literally fly more than 700 feet.
AMAZEBALLS.
I'll be especially rooting for Meryl Davis and Charlie White. Not only are they reppin' the Midwest (Midwest-ian 4 lyfe), but their ice dancing is, well, here just watch it and see for yourself... #datskillz.
You'll probably hear me chant U-S-A incessantly over the next few days...but can I also get a "PHIL-I-PPINES is in da house?!!"
According to ABS-CBN news, Michael Christian Martinez "will be the first athlete to represent not just the Philippines, but South East Asia in the history of Olympic figure skating."
Whoa, that's crazy cool.
Ultimately, no matter who wins, the Olympics remind me of the potential of the human being. God-given talents are put on display. Not just physical potential, but more so mental and spiritual. The power to persevere. The attitude of recognizing that falling gives us the opportunity to rise up again. The will to create, innovate, and inspire.
What do the Olympics mean to you?
