confession...

I get distracted easily.

Grades, boys, career, TV shows (holla at Holmes).

Sometimes I get so consumed by these things that I end up putting them on pedestals. They become idols when they get in the way of my relationship with God.

Today at core group, we talked about how we need God. We need God's voice to guide us. We must try to not get anything in the way of our relationship with Him. It doesn't mean we'll be perfect but it's good to ask yourself these questions (that I've asked myself many times too) like:

  • If you're dating someone, do you find yourself wanting to spend more time with that person than with God?
  • If you're not dating someone, do you find yourself thinking incessantly about that person, rather than letting God fill your mind?
  • When you're tired from a hard day's work of quizzes/jobs/internships/extracurriculars/clubs, where do you find your solace? Do you go to sleep or watch TV or maybe read and meditate on God's Word? (I confess that when the week has drained my energy, I sometimes end up watching "The Mindy Project" instead of reading God's Word...).
It's definitely not bad to watch TV or listen to music or read books or things like that haha...but we must be wary that we don't make these things into idols. We have to guard our hearts and ensure that we don't compromise our time with God and devotion to God if we let things distract us.
This is something I know that God is continuing to work in my own heart, to really make sure that my heart is for God alone and that He is my God and that no other false gods shall go before me.

Philippians 4:8 says, "Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things."

Think about God.
